Edil is a Certified Public Accountant, member of the Puerto Rico Society of Certified Public Accountants and an Attorney at Law. He assists clients in structuring corporate, real estate and tax incentive transactions in Puerto Rico.
He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with an Accounting Major at the University of Puerto Rico, and a Juris Doctor at the School of Law, Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Cum Laude. He was the highest score at his year’s bar entrance exam.
Through his professional experience he has dealt with complex transactions and public policy making in various industry sectors. Also, he was part of the Puerto Rico Tax Reform Committee and participated in the legislation process of the new tax code and new tax incentives acts in Puerto Rico.
Edil has been speaker at many tax seminars sponsored by the Puerto Rico Society of Certified Public Accountants and other professional associations, public agencies and private organizations.
Prior to joining Carrión Sánchez, LLC., Edil served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Internal Revenue Area at the Puerto Rico Treasury Department. From that position, he supervised all Internal Revenues Bureaus (Audit Bureau, Sales and Use Tax Bureau, Alcoholic Beverages and Licenses Bureau, Collections Bureau, Tax Assistance and Specialized Consulting Bureau, Returns Processing Bureau). At Treasury, he was directly involved in the conceptualization, drafting and approval of various Puerto Rico tax and tax incentive laws, including the 2011 Puerto Rico Internal Revenue Code and the Puerto Rico Green Energy Incentives Act of 2010. Also, he was responsible for Internal Revenue policy setting and the review and approval of technical matters, such as rulings, regulations, closing agreements and tax exemption grants.
